“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
~ Matthew 28:19
Since Michael was a teenager growing up in Kansas, he felt God called him to be an active participant not only in ministry but specifically in missions and bringing people into relationship with Christ. At a student convention, he responded to a call for those who wanted to become missionaries. Since then, he has participated in or led 15 short-term mission trips (varying from 1 week to 2 months). “Since before I went on my first mission trip at 14, I have felt God’s calling to reach the world with His amazing love and to minister through discipleship and in practical ways to physical and spiritual needs.” With his missions calling in mind, he served on the staff of Resurrection Life Church for eight years where he was involved in various ministries, outreaches and mission trips besides developing church communications tools and training several generations of interns in a year-long training program. ResLife is also where he met his lovely bride, Chrisi. Together they led a young adult group called Impact and served on the ResLife Missions Board.
Chrisi knew she was called to be a missionary since she was a little girl. Her professional training in the medical field as a Registered Nurse and a passion for reaching the lost with Jesus are a great part of the Shead family mission to reach the world around them with Christ.. ” I have a heart for helping people with physical needs and leading them to Jesus,” Chrisi said, “I want to spread the Gospel to the world and the Guatemalan people. I want to go use the skills that God has given me to reach them with the Gospel and help with their physical needs as well.”
Michael and Chrisi met at ResLife, where Chrisi grew up, their first conversation was about missions and the need in Guatemala. After a wonderful courtship, they married on July 11, 2009. “We love being married and getting to minister together is a great blessing!” Michael said. After prayer, counsel, and waiting on God’s timing, they now serve through ministry, outreach, and evangelism in Guatemala. “We believe God has called us to serve the people there through a local ministry (ASELSI).” they said. “Where He wants us is exactly where we want to be!”
Their two children, Hudson and Jubilee were born in Guatemala. They are little blessings and a great connection with the local people who want to see our little “Guatemaltecos”! They are learning to speak Spanish, English and the local Mayan language of K’iche’.
Our Guatemalan mission is to serve alongside an established ministry to:
- Make disciples and following Jesus Christ with our whole hearts and lives
- Communicate what God is doing in Guatemala,
- Develop and train local church leadership,
- Help provide medical care and training, and
- Connect outreach teams with local church or community needs.
These goals will be accomplished with the ever present goal of reaching more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and salvation through Him.
