In Matthew 21, we read the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem when people were celebrating Him as the coming king. People were shouting and waving branches. It was quite the celebration.
Jesus made his way into the temple and kicked out the animals and money changers and began healing the blind and lame while children were shouting around him. It must have been quite the scene!
In verse 15 it reads that when the temple leaders “saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant”… (NKJV)
These leaders confronted Jesus about what the children were shouting and Jesus responded with an amazing statement as he reminded them of what Scripture says in Psalm 8:2:
And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”(Matt. 21:16, NKJV)
The children were copying much of what they had just seen the adults do as Jesus was coming into the city, but Jesus didn’t say they were just being copycats or doing the best they could, Jesus indicated that they were giving perfect praise.
Children will copy the praises and worship they see in their parents and adults. Show them how and then let the kids give God their perfect praise!
Here are some beautiful examples of children giving perfect praise to our King!
